Facial Fracture Repair Newport Beach

Facial fractures most commonly occur after blunt or penetrating trauma to the face. Depending on the fracture stability, degree of bone separation or misalignment, vision impairment, malocclusion, and facial asymmetry, facial fractures can either be observed or repaired surgically using titanium plates, screws, wires, and other implants.

Some common facial fractures include the nasal fracture, orbital fracture, zygomatic-maxillary complex or ZMC fracture, mandible fracture, and pan-facial fracture. These fractures can sometimes undergo closed reduction or open reduction with internal fixation through incisions via existing lacerations or ones hidden in facial lines or inside the mouth.

Facial fractures should be repaired within 2-3 weeks after initial injury to allow for easy movement and realignment of the bony fragments, before fracture healing and ossification occurs. To realign and repair older fractures, involved bones may need to be refractured during surgery to allow for movement and proper alignment of the bony fragments.
