Breast Implant Exchange Newport Beach
Implants used in breast augmentation or breast reconstruction have a limited lifespan. On average, they can last for 10-15 years before needing replacement. They also have a leakage and rupture rate of 1-2% per year. Most breast implants, therefore, will likely need to be replaced eventually.
Other reasons for breast implant exchange is to exchange the implants for a different size, as an adjunct to a breast lift or mastopexy, for correction of capsular contracture, or for exchange of saline implants for silicone implants.
Breast implant surgery can also be performed as a part of revisional breast surgery to modify the implant pocket size to minimize breast implant migration, to correct asymmetry, and to correct synmastia where the two separate breast implant pockets have merged into one pocket.
Current FDA guidelines recommend MRI scans three years after initial breast implant surgery to look for implant leakage, followed by MRI scans every two years.
