Cleft Palate Repair Newport Beach
Cleft palate repair is usually performed between nine and twelve months of age. Many types of cleft palate repair have been described. Dr. Chen individualizes the type of cleft palate repair to the patient’s anatomy. For all her repairs, the cleft palate is repaired in three layers: the nasal mucosa, muscle, and oral mucosa using dissolving sutures.
Cleft palate repair requires general anesthesia and may last two or more hours, depending on the severity of the cleft palate and the complexity of the repair. Patients usually stay two nights in the hospital, with close airway monitoring during the first night.
